Advanced MSc and PhD courses

We give (and participate in) in a number of specialized courses for master and PhD students on topics associated with one of the research lines of the group. Some of the courses are given every year, others alternate over the years. Check the group agenda or contact the teacher for the scheduling and further information.

Computational Biology (Bioinformatic processes)

This course runs of 10 weeks (7.5 EC-points) and is given at two levels, as a level-3 course for bachelor students and at a MSc level, by Prof. Dr. Paulien Hogeweg. Read more for more for further info.

Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Genomics

This course requires basic knowledge and skills such as taught in our bachelor level 1 course Systems Biology, or the master course Introduction to bioinformatics for molecular biologists . Participants are thus expected to have some hands on experience with basic bioinformatics tools such as e.g. blast, as well as knowledge of basic concepts such as alignments and trees. Immunology students interested in learning how mathematical modeling and bioinformatics can help to interpret immunological data can attend the computational biology parts of the level-3 Immunobiology course. These parts involve immunoinformatic projects and the fitting simple mathematical models to experimental data. Contact Dr. Can Kesmir for information, and read more for more for further info.

Summerschool Introduction into Quantitative Biology

This course gives a one week introduction into the approaches and research questions in "quantitative biology". We aim at students having completed a bachelor program in any of the sciences with a genuine interest in interdisciplinary work. National PhD course Theoretical Ecology

The course aims at making the participants conversant with approaches to ecological and evolutionary models beyond those found in the textbooks. The stress is on generalities, as opposed to the construction of simulation models purportedly mimicking concrete empirical cases. The work of theoretical groups in the Netherlands serves as an anchoring point. Read more for further info or here.
